It is with no small measure of delight that I report the ongoing exploits of the esteemed Composer and Performer, Mr. Phil Morton, who, in his peripatetic musical adventures, appears to be steadily ascending the ranks toward what one might call Couch Aficionado status. A gentleman of taste and refinement, Mr. Morton has made a veritable art of reclining upon the finer divans of the land, often accompanied by his ever-loyal travelling companion—a rather distinguished white piano.

Amongst his many sedentary conquests, one must make mention of his own cherished “Beach Studio Couch,” upon which he is frequently joined by a venerable hound—his studio assistant, no less—whose years have lent him a quiet wisdom befitting the artistic atmosphere. Not to be overlooked is the rather distinguished “Smecky Studios Couch” of Prague, where he has reclined in the company of fellow connoisseurs of fine furniture—those rare souls who can discern a superior resting place at but a glance.

There are, of course, certain highlights in this noble pursuit. Chief among them: the Royal Couches, once graced by Her late Majesty herself at the splendid Drapers’ Hall, a setting most worthy of such upholstery. One must also give due reverence to “Posh Couch 1,” situated within the sumptuous drawing room of a Sussex estate of considerable opulence—with whispers of further posh iterations yet to come. And let us not neglect a personal favourite of mine (and his, I daresay): the singular “Couch with a Roof”—a most sensible innovation, for what well-appointed couch should find itself exposed to the cruel whims of the weather?

Thus continues Mr. Morton’s noble campaign, where melody meets comfort and the weary artist finds both rest and inspiration beneath the cushions of the great and good.
